Golf Driving Tips – How To Increase And Stop Losing Distance Off The Tee

Article by Troy Vayanos

Every golfer at some point starts to lose distance on their tee shots, however with the right golf driving tips you can solve the problem. It’s very important because often problems off the tee can flow over on to the rest of your golf game.

Next time you are struggling with length and consistency off the tee try these tips to get your golf game back on the straight and narrow.

Ease The Pressure Off Your Golf Grip

One of the major problems with distance issues with golfers is too much tension on the golf club. This is because with any good golf swing you need the coil action, weight shift and body turn. These are all meant to work in harmony to create a fluid golf swing. However this is only possible if you body is tension free.

For example, it is very difficult get the right body turn and coil if your shoulders and arms are resisting. Your legs should be the only part of the body that should be resisting. Most beginner golfers suffer from over tension in their upper body but it also has a habit of finding its way into low marker golfers and even some professionals.

The first place where the tension in the body starts is usually the hands. The hands are where the golf swing starts so it’s very important to make sure you are placing the correct amount of tension on the golf grip. Therefore if you start to notice your drives losing distance it may be that you are squeezing the golf club too tightly and creating unnecessary tension in your golf swing. This is one of the best golf driving tips around and is so simple to implement in your golf game.

The Reverse Pivot Could Be Where It’s Going Wrong

This is another common fault that destroys a golfer’s distance off the tee. The reverse pivot is often misunderstood and therefore often causes problems in golfer’s swings.

In most common golf swings, you bodyweight starts out level between both your legs. When the backswing starts, most of the weight should shift to the right side of your body (for right handers). When the downswing starts most of the weight should shift to the left side.

When golfers do the reverse pivot they completely throw out of balance the weight distribution needed to complete a perfect golf swing. What happens is the weight shifts to the left side at the start of the swing instead of the right side. To make matters worse on the downswing they shift all their weight to the right side and end playing a back foot drive that has no power and control. These golf swings are usually very easy to spot on the golf course and the players are often off balance when they complete their golf swing.

So if you are finding your drives lacking power and accuracy try checking your weight shift and ensure you are giving yourself every possible chance to launch the balls a long way down the middle of the fairway. These golf driving tips when implemented correctly should help you get back to hitting the ball with power and precision.

Improve Driving Distance

Here are some golf tips that can help you make the most of your efforts, when driving for distance. Driving for distance is a common problem for new and experienced golfers alike.

Golfers are always working to tweak and improve their games and there are many ways to do this. Unfortunately, there is no single way that works for everyone and it ends up being a lot like a dance. For every step you take forward it seems that there are two steps to take back. Then you retreat, regroup, and try something new hoping that you haven’t learned or developed a bad habit or two along the way.

The truth of the matter is that practice makes perfect when driving for distance. The only problem with that is that you have to find the right principles to practice that will work for your golf game. No two golfers are exactly alike and this makes for some interesting cases of trial and error when working on driving for distance and finding ways to get your driver hitting further.

Of course more often than not it is the person behind the swing and not the driver itself that is having the distance issues. Drives can be improved by proper fitting and custom designed clubs but the average weekend golfer can’t afford that kind of investment in his golf game, which leaves the improvements up to making changes in how you play the game.

A good way to really improve your driving distance however, is to warm up properly before playing a game of golf. Get your muscles flowing smoothly and working together with a few stretching exercises. This also helps get the blood flowing and helps you improve your mental golf game as well as your physical golf game.

Begin with stretching exercises, and then hit the driving range for a little while before your game. This will help you notice potential problems with accuracy or distance before you hit the golf course and make adjustments accordingly.

It is amazing how much people find that simple stretching exercises and a little time at the driving range can improve a golf game. The driving range gives you time to clear your mind and avoid hyper focusing on your swing needs.

A problem that many golfers face is that they spend so much time focusing on what they need to do that they overlook the importance of feeling the game as well. This is something that comes with experience, which is why hitting the driving range before visiting the golf course can help. You have a much better idea of how your game is going on any given day if you are feeling your actions rather than over-thinking them.

To improve your driving for distance start with a simple warm up that includes stretching exercises, then head on over to the driving range for a little time with your driver (and other clubs of course) and some mental clarity. You will be amazed at how much doing this every time you play will improve your driving for distance
